Not to downplay fire--where I live every plume or slurry bomber means you look around for trouble--but methinks Professor Photoshop helped this photo. P

Here are some pictures of the smoke from the Fontenelle fire in Wyoming as seen from Bear Lake, Utah, more than 100 miles away. No PhotoShop here:

Re: Colorado on fire (News photos)

fire like that has to be terrifying...it has so many elements to it that can get ya.

im astonished that firefighters try to stop it on foot.

i worked on my van for 12 hours today in the 100+ degree heat in the sun (damn shade was toying with me)....except for a brief thundershower with hail...it was brutal...

i cant imagine a fast moving, boiling cloud of 800 degree smoke and fire rumbling around me...sheesh

(btw...bear lake in ut looks pretty damn amazing...i will add that place to my list of places to visit).

Don't need Pshop for reality. Nice pics, Mac.

Re: Colorado on fire (News photos)

We lost our home in the Fourmile Fire Labor Day 2010. We even had our own fire truck, a 1968 IH Loadstar 4x4. It too went up in flames. They seem to have a handle on a majority on the fires in CO right now. Like so many other people, we're not getting much sleep these days.

Re: Colorado on fire (News photos)

DSW- I'm sorry that so much of your backyard has been burned. That must be a horrible feeling. When we arrived in the Pengree Park area we were amazed at how beautiful it was. As the days passed our divisions worked tirelessly to try and fortify and prep Pengree Park road to hold the fire there. It wasn't without issue but it held under far from ideal conditions and the numerous spotfires were quickly corralled near the South Fork of the Poudre and Pengree road.

This was when we were called to assist north of the Poudre when the fire jumped the narrows and burned into the Glacier Subdivision.

Re: Colorado on fire (News photos)

Decent amount of rain through here in the last few days, today it rained morning and late afternoon. It's raining now. The garden irrigation and sprinklers are off, the ground is terribly muddy, and I hope the fires are getting their fair share.

Re: Colorado on fire (News photos)

That's good news, though the flip-side of getting rain in major burn areas is that mud slides can be almost as devastating as the fires. Here's hoping that stays safe.
