Dakar starts today - something to live for!

Time to rebrand this race to reflect the current realities. It's a bit disrespectful IMHO. Then again when have the French ever cared about what other people think.

Once you build up name recognition you don't wanna drop it. If this thread was called "Rosario to Valparaiso" I probably wouldn't have known what it was. I see it as part othe history of the race; I'm glad they didn't change it.

Kinda like the "New York" Jets or "San Francisco" Forty Niners .....

Agree, glad it remains the Dakar even if it does not fit the venue today.

The venue was changed due to al queda in the Maghreb threats to attack/kidnap racers. With sufficient further clean up of that trash, it could return to Africa in the future.
