Desperation or Trickery? Either way pathetic

Incredible the length someone will go, to be associated with the SMB crowd, or try and trick an unsuspecting buyer! A "clone" is something that is "alike", which would say that 4x4 is indeed 4x4. Neither a 4x4 or an SMB, which the sticker indicates. Pathetic IMHO.

Other creativity:

"XLT CHATEAU" well, which is it, an XLT or a Chateau? I don't think it can be both.
Listed as a 5.4L, but there's a V10 badge on the front fenders

Good catch, didn't even see that!

This one takes the cake though:

"SPORTSMOBILE 4X4 CLONE WHY PAY 40K OR MORE FOR QUIGLEY OR SPORTSMOBILE 4X4"

Guess he just doesn't quite get it.

I agree. It has to be 4 x 4 to be a Sportsmobile...

I meant that apparently he doesn't quite get why someone wants a 4x4 rather than just a 4x4 clone.

But yeah ....

I'm not really sure what your issue is. It's obviously NOT a 4x4 and it says so in the ad. It looks nothing like a 4x4 and the fact that it is an E150 almost guarantees that anyway. The guy is just trying to get some attention on his ad, otherwise it would just be grouped with a million other Ford vans on Ebay, most of which are worn out contractor/cargo vans. I don't really think the guy is deceptive or trickery-ish. Has he claimed to be in the "SMB crowd", whatever that is? It's a van for sale. Do your homework. If this kind of thing bothers you I recommend staying off Ebay and CL altogether. "Clone" is used everywhere to label something like the real thing but it's not. I really don't see your issue.

Scotty, while I agree with the 'buyer beware' philosophy, the van does have Sportsmobile 4x4 decals, and V10 Triton badges on it. For an uneducated buyer, it could be very misleading.

FWIW, I never trust anything in a eBay, AutoTrader/Cars ad. Even when trying to enter correct information, the systems don't always let you enter the correct info (e.g. trying to enter 4wd for a SMB sometimes isn't recognized).

The "Sportsmobile 4x4" stickers all over the van could quite possibly trick somebody who doesn't really understand the mechanics of these vans, which is probably most prospective SMB buyers. It never ceases to amaze me how many driver's don't know if their car is FWD or RWD, or that you can unlock the doors WITH A KEY.
