Dive bars...... post up!

Kind of a weird topic... but hey... we've all seen them...

Ok, my buddy is doing an article for a magazine and needs our help. He's looking for bars near trails all across America. I know, kind of a odd request but heck, we all know of some type of dive bar im sure.

Below are some that we've already been working on through friends and submissions to the magazine. This is what he's aiming for.
  • Up here in the Great Pacific Northwest is a bar called Whistling Jacks. Great trail bar

CROWN KING ARIZONA . IT'S A NEAT TRAIL FROM LAKE PLEASANT TO THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN , AFTER ABOUT A FOUR HOUR RIDE YOU GET TO THE TOP TO AN OLD LITTLE TOWN WITH THE ORIGINAL BAR WITH THE BROTHEL UPSTAIRS . YOU CAN GET A COLD BEER , A SHOT , BUT YOU GOT TO BRING YOUR OWN WOMAN . THE LOCAL LADIES CAN BE PRETTY RUFF . THERE'S A GREAT LITTLE CAFÉ' ATTACHED TO THE BACK OF THE BAR (CINDY'S CAFÉ') FOR SOME GOOD GRUB .

Here is a "dive bar" outside of Barstow CA. http://www.slashxranchcafe.com/ you may know where it is but if you don't here ya go. The Slash X cafe on rt. 247 about 12mi. south of Barstow going toward Lucern Valley. Near Stoddard Wells area.

Captian Jim's in Salton City. I think the street is Haven but not sure. Anyway, it's right behind the Sheriff's station (appropriatly, but they don't bother us) a couple of blocks east of 86S. It's about a mile down from N. Marina Dr. (Truckhaven Hills) area.

One of our favorite places to go in Pa. is a nice little bar that has GREAT food and a Beer selection to match. It's Oneil's on Main St. in Pine Grove Pa. just south of Rausch Creek Off Road Park in Tower City

Since you have been to the Rubicon trail more than a handful of times, Im sure you have stopped at or at least heard of "Uncle Tom's Cabin". Uncle Toms Cabin is located off Wentworth Springs Rd just after Stumpy Meadows Lake and before Ice House Road.

"The Desert Bar" near Parker Az. 5 miles off the beaten path in the middle of no where. It's a cool bar that runs off solar power. It closes at night for obvious reasons.http://www.thedesertbar.com/

If you know of any dive bars or just plain bars near trails or off the beaten path... post up and add to the list.

***Please post pics of the place if you can***

How much space does he have in his article? This is Austin, Texas, Live Music Capitol of the World,.... we have a few dive bars, and I can rationalize proximity to trails...

For another location:
One can't miss is La Kiva in Terlingua/Study Butte, Texas between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. Txn2DaBone provided a photo in his recent post (Big Bend Ranch State Park/Big Bend National Park)

Not a dive bar per se, but worthy of consideration is The Whoa Nellie Deli in Lee Vining, CA. It's at the eastern base of Tioga Pass Road into Yosemite, inside a Mobil gas station. Yup, inside a gas station. Featured libation is a frozen mango margarita. Chef was previously at Whiskey Creek in Mammoth and serves up amazing food: seared ahi, lobster taquitos, jambalaya, herb crusted pork tenderloin, buffalo meatloaf, fish tacos, etc. Closed in winter. In the summer months, they have bands outside in the evenings, mostly on Thursday and Sunday.

Popular hangout for climbers treating themselves after dirt-bagging in the Park, and for Harley riders on their way over the pass. Believe it or not, we had our wedding reception here.

Re: Dive bars...... post up!

Okay, Portland has more than any city's fair share of dive bars...but Mary's takes the cake. You have been warned
