First camping weekend!

I am really exited about this

Missus Saabman is however a bit more reserved about it... She has never camped before so

Kids are completely mad mind you

Do you remember your first trip out?

Re: First camping weekend!

That first camping trip... well, it was a long time ago,... and it was pre-SMB, a canvas tent, a thin sleeping bag... Oh the joy!

Things improved over the years, but once McBeast made the scene things are great.

Re: First camping weekend!

first trip out ever?...sleeping bag, tarp to lay it on so it didn't get too wet. Frying pan and a cooler of food. That was about as elaborate as it got when my friends and I were 8 years old and my Dad took us out to wilds of South Carolina to camp.

First SMB camping trip is another question entirely. Much more hospitable then sleeping on the ground.

But, don't forget on any trip to find the time to lay on the ground and stare up at the stars. That still is worth doing before you retire to your Chevy Express for the evening.

Re: First camping weekend!

I recently ran across a photo from an early '70s camping trip.... a canvas boy scout tent on an obviously cold morning.... I will have to see if I can find it again and share it.

Wow... that seems like a long time ago.... oh.... it was....

Re: First camping weekend!

1958-1963 not even a clue. Yosemite was big on the family list every year until the 70's. 1964 on as kids, wow. "I was a junior ranger". I retured to Tuolumne Meadows (Yosemite) in 1972 as a backpacker and found the same spot my dad and me caught fish back in the early 60's...totally strange. I still see that spot every time I drive pass it now and it's very special to me. Even though my parents said I had caught fish before that, Tuolumne Meadows was the first place "I" remember catching fish so it ranks as #1.

Re: First camping weekend!

My first camping trip was as a cub scout in the early 1960s where the idiotic adult trip leader had us set up tents in a vacant lot in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, just a few blocks from my house. I dropped out of cub scouts shortly afterward.

I'm sure Saabman will have a better trip planned than that one!

Re: First camping weekend!

Hi,
Well just returned and Missus Saabman survived and even enjoyed!
Thanx for sharing your first camping experiences

I will post photos asap in the trip report section

What has been the good thing with this short trip is that we have been able to realise all the things we still need to modify or adapt etc...
