Re: ? for CA residents. What are the drought effects like?
Rob: I wondered if anyone would catch that anomally in my post. I voted for Brown the first time because he opposed the Peripheral Canal. At the time, I was doing a little interning with one of the guys at Friends of the River at the time when Mark Dubois chained himself to a rock somewhere in the Stanislaus River* to prevent the filling of the newly constructed dam.
My point is that Brown continues to wear the guise of an environmentalist but lies to us about his new underground Tunnels version of the old Peripheral Canal plan. His betrayal is bitter.
* The Stanislaus River was one of the most beautiful kayaking whitewater rivers in the West. I worked on it as a raft guide. The Stani also had that little granite rock sculpted Rose Creek with water falls and jumping rocks. I personally didn't and don't see any overriding benefit to daming the Stani and would like to see it brought back.
But the Stani ain't never coming back.
And once the Sacramento River has those two Tunnels bitten into it, you can kiss Lake Shasta, Lake Oroville, and Folsom Lake goodbye to the thirst of Southern California.
Did you read that Southern California water usage is actually up in this drought?
