Frustrating 4th - completey off topic

Hate to be a downer on such a nice weekend, but we found out Thursday that one of our dogs has an inoperable tumor on her spine. She's had problems with her back legs for a month or two now, and many x-rays (all negative) and pain killers later, she kept getting progressively worse. She then had an ultrasound which was negative, and Thursday, my wife braved pre-Holiday weekend traffic to drive to two and a half hours to Tustin to have an MRI done on our dog. Within hours, we had the bad news. We do have an appointment Monday with an oncologist at the local vet emergency clinic to see if there are any options, but the signs are not good. She's too young for this at nine years old. She's the tan dog on the left.

Asumming things go the way we expect/fear, we then have to find a way to explain it to out 3 year old son, and then deal with another dog that already exhibits separation anxiety.

Sorry for this comepltely off-topic post, but I just need to get it off my chest.

Herb

Herb-
I'm really sorry to hear about your dog. We get so attached to our furry friends and it is like a knife in your chest when you have to face the fact that they won't be here forever.
We've had 6 Labs, and have lost three to cancer. One at 8, one at thirteen and the last one about 4 or 5 years ago at eight months. You never get over it, but you have to get another and go on .
I guess what I'm trying to say, is that heroic measures with dogs doesn't seem to be fair to them, especially with cancer.
Again, I'm so sorry for you and your three year old, who of course will suffer the storm the easiest in the end.
Bill

Hello Herb,

We are very Sorry to hear about your dog. We are in a similar situation, our 11 year old has a "tumor" (hump, don't know the real name) on his back. Vets said that they can't do anything about it. Luckly he is in very little Pain (only when he gets up in the morning, he is very stiff).
All we can do is give him a great time with our family, until his time comes to move on.
So enjoy everyday with your Family and Pets, you never know what the future will bring you.

I'm so sorry to hear this Herb. Please keep us up to date on any news you find out. I love being a dog owner and couldn't imagine my life without them. Unfortunately, this is the type of situation that makes it so tough also. All you can really do is be the best owner possible. I will definitely be thinking of you and your family .
