Good bye old friend

Today we said good bye to one of our dogs. JD was eleven and a half years old and was recently diagnosed with an inoperable tumor surrounding his kidney. He was such strong and happy dog, it just tore us up to see him reduced to not eating and having such a hard time getting up. We had him put to sleep at 10:30 this morning. We will miss him dearly.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Nothing is worse than having to make that decision. These are the crappiest days you can have.

Sorry for your loss...Unfortunately I've been there more than once and it doesn't get any easier.

HEAVEN'S DOGGY-DOOR

My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.

The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.

Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.

But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a 'doggy-door"!

Sorry to hear about your dog. I lost two dogs in 2006. One young cattle dog that got spooked by some illegal late-July fireworks, jumped the fence and got run over, the other was older than dirt and got prostate cancer. Had to be put down. No one relishes making that decision but it's part of the responsibility we bear when we adopt a pet.
