How to sell a Sportsmobile?

Okay, I've officially given up on Craigslist. It's quite amazing the type of folks out there and how much time you can waste with tire kickers

I'd like to throw this topic out there to those of you that might have some good ideas. Here's our rig:

What do you think? Has anyone tried Ebay with any success? Maybe it's a good way to locate potential buyers? It pains me to sell our SMB, but our family has outgrown our van and it's time for it to find a new home. Let me know what you think, I'm all ears.

Cheers,

Jayle

Re: How to sell a Sportsmobile?

Of course this forum is one good source to sell your SMB.

I have found eBay to be quite good. I have purchased a vehicle sight unseen, and I have sold two (one sight unseen). No problems at all, and got exposure all over the US.

YMMV,

steve

Thanks Steve for the feedback. I may give Ebay a whirl in a week or two and see what happens.

No problem Jayle. In the past I found eBay to be a Seller's market. Good Luck.

Sportsmobile themselves. They are rather pricey as far as I know to list used, but you get good sales assistance (they weed out the tire kickers) and definitely the right market exposure.

Yeah, I think you're right and that the SMB West pre-owned page moves a decent amount of SMB's , (for a fee of $1500, I believe). I would be happy to pay the fee to sell our SMB, but they won't list a van that isn't completely built out at SMB. Since Van Specialties did our interior conversion, they won't list it.

Re: How to sell a Sportsmobile?

$1,500 to list on their website???? WOW

Have you tried listing on

Quigley4x4
Thundersgarage
expeditionportal
facebook marketplace

I just bought a 2003 Quigley and my search routine was

search all of craigslists
autotrader
ebay
quigley
i get emails every time something is posted on thundersgarage through the 4x4van group on yahoo groups

I occasionally checked the SMB West site but didn't want an SMB outfitted van.

I had a real hard time selling my 2000 Quigley 5.4 a few years ago. The small engine hurt my resale.

Re: How to sell a Sportsmobile?

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to pull everything together soon (hopefully) and start listing on some more sites to see what happens. We just had a nice camping trip last weekend and are using the van every Sunday right now for bike races, so my motivation has been a bit lower. That being said, I'm not sure the "holiday" season is the best time to sell a SMB.

Any advice regarding listing a vehicle on Ebay? Is it pretty straightforward? Should I list it during a certain time of week for the best exposure? How long should the auction run for?

Also, any input or comments on the asking price of our van? I feel that it's a fair price, but was curious what you guys think.
