Just a shout out to you all

A number of us started with VW vans. My first was a 59 with barn doors on both sides. Very nice ride.

1982? a 72 is a bay bus...(T2 1968-1979)
Vanagons started in 1980-1991 in the states... (T3 The campers everyone calls Westys)
T=Transporter, VW Type II the second design chassis (T1 was 1950-1967)

Larrie do you still have the 59?
Double doors are very rare in the US...
Do you have a picture?
Suzann really digs split buses especially panels as you can see...
(sorry about the porta jonhs, sometimes at car shows these things cant be missed)

Ultrasport

I no longer have the 59 Transporter am not even sure that I have a photo of it. As you say it was a rare item. Lived in it for a couple of years and should it when I came to Oregon.
