Last Friday November 1st.LAX. another reason to love my van.

I had a gig with a big swing band in Dallas on Saturday the 2nd.I live in San Bernardino,Ca. So a flight from LAX at 12:00 PM and a meetup of 10:00 AM is tough(rush hour) so I left at 3:30 AM and got there at 5 AM to long term parking lot C. Popped the top of my van and took a nap til 8, got up , had a little breakfast.Decided to just wait til 9:45 to get on the shuttle.I stepped on the shuttle near my van and the driver declared "Nobody's going nowhere today" "There was a shooting and this place is shutting down".Sure enough,He was correct. It was at Terminal 3 where we were scheduled to fly out of on Virgin America. The band leader and his wife as well as two of our guys were ushered to the Bradley terminal where they waited until 5:30.I was very lucky(blessed) that I wasn't my usual early self.I hung out til 2 with another musician in my camp chairs before we found out that they got tickets for 7:30 AM Saturday on American. My buddy headed home and I found a better spot and camped out til morning.I needed nothing and felt bad for the people dragging their luggage around in search of water and food and I guess lodging. As an aside. If you are in the L.A. area and need a place to camp.Long term parking in lot C and G is $12 per 24 hours.Kinda noisy but cheap and secure.Truck and trailer $150 per 24 hours.

Re: Last Friday November 1st.LAX. another reason to love my

Just a few blocks over from where you were there's a more "permanent" set of LAX RV'ers: http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2...lot_ghetto.php. Not sure how they do it with a plane coming in for landing right over their head every couple minutes, or less.

I've been through the RV 'ghetto' many times - lot's of big RVs, some smaller ones, a couple of VWs, and even the rare Honda Element E-Camper (in the regular employee section) but never came across an SMB.

I'd definitely rather be out in the boonies than LAX, but hey, I'd rather be stuck somewhere like LAX with my SMB than sitting at the gate.

I wish I had not offloaded the case of bottled water before the trip or I could have helped a few people but the Red Cross got there and gave blankets and such.
