Well, I actually wound up sleeping in my father’s house because the AC condenser fan motor froze up. I was able to cool the coils sufficiently by trickling water over them, but decided that it would just be easier to couch surf in the house. We couldn’t get back into the city until Wednesday afternoon. It was a pain, but it did provide free time to futz with the fan though.

There were a few trees and a lot of limbs down in New Orleans, but we were mostly spared. Baton Rouge and Southwest Louisianan bore the brunt of Gustav. I was surprised to see that I did have power when we got back. My mom, sister and 3 y/old nephew didn’t have power though, and stayed at the house. They got it turned back on this evening, and just left.

Next time I plan on leaving earlier and heading to the Smokey or Ozark mountains to make the most of the forced time away from it all. I’m just hoping that next time is not too soon…
