Leaving NOLA for higher ground – Gustav

We’re using the rig to evacuate to higher grounds in anticipation of hurricane Gustav.

This is the rout that we're taking: http://tinyurl.com/6g57sx

The French Quarter is eerily quiet.

Looking down Chartres at the St. Louis Cathedral

Jackson Square

Boarded up shops

St. Peters and Bourbon - quiet

All’s quiet now, but you can see reminisce of the Decadence Fest.

First time I’ve seen Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop closed.

Water flowing through the Chef Menteur Pass from Lake Borne to Lake Pontchartrain.

Contra-flow on the I-10 is very thick, but rolling.

Hunkered down and waiting.

Good luck and stay safe.

The company I work for is already scheduling people to help with the cleanup along the Gulf Coast, after Gustav hits. And I've heard that they are evacuating pets this time around, rather than letting them drown or starve like what happened after Katrina.

Thanks Ed. The public evacuation efforts are letting people bring their pets this time, but we're cat-sitting for a friend who is flying out. The airline wouldn't let them take the cat. Go figure... Hopefully pet owners use better judgment this time too.

Thanks for posting, and keep us up to date if you can.

I was wondering yesterday when we were at a Family Reunion in Dallas and found a bunch of displaced La-folks at our hotel, if we (this forum) would have anyone affected by the stoms.

Good luck and be safe.

Thanks for the well wishes. I’m glad to say that all seems to be well for us, and glad to see that things look fairly well for everyone else in all. I’m going to try to get back into town tomorrow to see how our property faired.

How did it go for you in the van? Was there power when you got home? What would you do differently, what worked?
