Looking for opinions on Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park

Anyone with firsthand experience with Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, near Santa Cruz? I'm considering staying there in June, instead of close to Monterey, so my son can get up close and personal with some Redwoods.

I haven't been there, but we booked a week stay there over July 4th. From the reviews on Yelp, it looks like theres some nice hiking trails although it sounds like the trails start at the day use park which is not where the camp grounds are.

Its nice place but a fairly large park, nice trails. Their is a steam train near by that runs to
Santa Cruz, Roaring Camp RR in Felton. Also the Board Walk is a fun place to take kids in Santa Cruz.

If this doesnt work for try also Butano State Park in Pescadero. Its much smaller I think
20 drive in sites, about 20 min from the beach. Butano usuallybooks up fast.

Correct...the campground is up the hill from the redwoods. It will be cool in the redwoods but might be warm in the campground.

Be sure to see the Bigfoot Discovery museum across the street from the park. Free admission but a donation is greatly appreciated.
