More Death Valley bizarritude

I had recently run across the tragic tale of the the Lost Germans out by Anvil Springs in southern Death Valley and the search for the remains; there are posts here about it.

Now I've run across the story of Carlos Castenada's adopted daughter/cult follower who died in the Panamint Dunes. Her body was discovered in 2003, and ID'd in 2006. She went missing, along with several other "disciples" in '98. See the article here:

I bring it up cuz someone posted a request at the forum at deathvalley.com asking if anyone knew of Amalia Marquez, another Castenada disciple who went missing in 1998. http://www.deathvalley.com/dvtalk/messages/710716.shtml It kind of freaks me that I've hiked all over the Dunes area in those years between 1998-2003; glad I didn't find the bones.

Very odd story. I'm probably gonna be back there later next week; guess I'll keep an eye peeled.

Rob

Re: More Death Valley bizarritude

They don't call it Death Valley for nuthin'! I absolutely loved the DV Germans story. Love is probably the wrong word. It fascinated me and haunted me for awhile. Can't wait to check out your links. Thanks for posting.
