Seattle is overflowing with van / motorhome folks too. I spent the night in my van there a couple nights ago, and was shocked at how they are lined up bumper to bumper along side many roads. Lots of them have generators on the ground, bicycles along side, and tons of other stuff too, and none of them seemed to be concerned about being seen. I simply went into stealth mode, parked on a quiet side street in front of a closed business and departed early in the morning in search of coffee. It was much nicer being in my van than on the floor of the new ferry were getting ready to move.

I think there was twice as much stuff inside as outside of the van. Looks like a pretty romantic life style.

On a trip recently, somewhere in the Wild West, I was fueling up and noticed a classic Econoline parked out in front of the station. I walked towards it for a closer look. It was a passenger van, all clear windows, and absolutely piled to the ceiling with a hoarder's collection of crap. All the way to the ceiling, every window, just the driver's seat clear. There's no way any door could be opened without stuff falling out everywhere.

We came super close to doing the van life for a year starting this August. In preparing for our departure (6+months) of prepping / down sizing we realized that with two cats & a dog, plus a few other things... we are better of being weekend warriors. We'll stick with weekend trips & 4 to 6 week trips once a year. We've both realized that a house helps in keeping us grounded. Plus side to getting ready for the trip is we downsized big time & that was a major plus... I like that there are so many different sides to van life be it full time or weekends!
