Major Tom, who used to be the caretaker out at Saline for years some years ago, has retired and now has a hobby taking pictures of the valley. I have his picture of Lee Flats in my living room and am buying his 2011 calender. Of course, I cannot throw away his 2010 calander. The pictures are beautiful to look at when I cannot be there. Just looking at his web site is a feast for the eyes.
Really impressive pictures and area. Is Saline in northern California area? Maybe we will have to plan another western trip and add that area to the trip. We touched the northern tip of California on our "Great Northern" trip a few years back but other than the redwood forests have not stayed in the state.
Search "Saline Valley" on this forum for lots of info.
It was self governed and you could stay there forever. Now, that it is part of Death Valley, the limit is 30 days a year.
http://www.salinepreservation.org/ is the voice of Saline Valley with more information. My friends and I are members and make donations. Dealing with the park service is not easy but must be done so we can continue to use the valley as we wish.
