He lives in that van with his cat, usually in the Moab area, and he's a pretty serious athlete. He boasts of 30 mile runs and the like on a regular basis. Lately, he's been drilling holes in the van and bolting on climbing holds.

I have a friend looking for an eb cargo, and saw one for sale on the side of the road yesterday. The sign said $1500! I got a little excited until I looked at it and discovered it was an ex Fed Ex van with 340,000 miles, and was beat beyond description. The floor inside looked like it was used to haul 1000 lb blocks of steel, the exhaust system was held on with coat hangers, two shock were broken off at the stem and had beat the surrounding metal to death. With seats worn to threads, tires with cord showing and a million holes all over the interior, I think it might have been rejected even by a scrap yard. Too bad too, cuz it had a full floater with disc brakes and a fairly straight body.

This guy pulled up in front of my house today. He was lost, but we talked for a minute. It not a SMB, but has a custom build inside. He said it has something like 340K miles. He built the entire thing, including the rack on top.

I saw this clean one in Bellingham last Wednesday. Talked to the owner for a few minutes. Nice guy and has put in a lot of work to it.

Our latest 2400 mile loop up to Missoula MT, and then back down through the Bitterroots, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Wind River range was surprising for NOT spotting any other (privately owned) SMBs. Saw a couple Outside Van conversions, VanWorks, and a few others however.

But Belgrade, MT is headquarters for Campervan North America which had a fleet of SMB Sprinter, Promaster, and Nissan rental units parked in front. And we spotted one of their cute little Edelweiss campers at the Yellowstone canyon south rim parking area. Similar to the unit pictured but based on the Chevy City Express branded version of the NV200 chassis.

Tiniest Sportsmobile I've ever seen!
