So.....I smoked a couple of antelope

Yup, just getting off work, on the interstate at dusk when I see two antelope crossing the road. My choices were the 7-10 split or take one dead center. I chose the 7-10 split. The 7 bent up the drivers side fender, front grill, bumper and ac condenser. The 10 bent up the passenger side. Total damage, $3,500 and change. Lucky I still had full coverage. Damage repaired plus my solution for surviving future encounters with road goats. It's a Truck Defender bumper made of 1/4" thick aluminum. Seems to be very sturdy, locally made by a company just north of Sturgis, SD

I've never smoked antelope, usually just put it on the grill. The OTHER Grill.

Re: So.....I smoked a couple of antelope

Ron, the bumper was $1,575 installed. I ordered it through a local aftermarket parts store and there was a mix up on the year. Manufacturer thought it was for a 2008, then realized it was for a 2002. They asked me to drop off the van for a day so they could confirm the measurements and would then install for free because of the inconvenience.
I believe they are raising their prices some, but I don't know how much that will be. Truck Defender is currently running 5-6 weeks out for delivery. When I was there I saw several flat beds being installed on F550s. Looked like a quality product.

Oh, forgot the last part of your question. I believe the final weight of the bumper was around 160 lbs.

Just curious. What state is it where you might run into antelope? Around here it's just deer.

Re: So.....I smoked a couple of antelope

Lots of western high desert states. We have them in eastern Oregon, although they get hit a LOT less than deer. Probably because the deer live in highly populated (by humans) parts of the state, while the antelope live in very sparsely populated areas.

Anyway, I can't believe I haven't ever hit a deer (or antelope) yet. Big grill guard is a good idea. 1/4" thick is monstrous, maybe necessary with aluminum.

What bumper did you have before? Stock or Aluminess?

Re: So.....I smoked a couple of antelope

It was the stock Chevy bumper. It is amazing there wasn't more damage after seeing how flimsy it was. I live in South Dakota and work in Wyoming, commuting 100 miles each way, and staying in the van during my shift "week" so I have many opportunities for close encounters with wild life.
