Stuck at SMB North

So, thanks to a post on the forum I found a sweet deal on a van with the options I was looking for. In Ohio. No problem, I'll just ship it. Wait. PITA. Looks like it might be easier to just fly out, pick it up, and drive back to CA.

Wait! There's a place in Columbus, OH that will install the seats no one else wants to touch.

Oh, that ruins my plan to sleep/camp in the back if I have to drive it to California.

Wait! There's another SMB just three hours away from Columbus, on the way to CA. Oh, great idea! I'll have them install a PH top. Then I'll have a cheap place to sleep for the 40 hr drive back to CA.

The perfect plan...

3 a.m. wake-up. Flew from Fresno to Columbus on Monday. Smooth as glass. Seats are in and van is ready to go. Wait. Brackets aren't quite rite. Quick adjustment. Seats work great. Arrive in Huntington at 10 p.m.

Arrive at SMB North at 7 a.m. for the "quick" install (equivalent of another 3 a.m. wake-up). Wait. Electric top has not yet arrived from SMB West. They are expecting it to arrive at 9 a.m. Back to the hotel for a nap. Noon, still no top. 1 p.m. top arrives and we're in business. "Come back at noon tomorrow and we'll be ready to go." Sweet. Lots of time for sleep. Big plans to make Oklahoma City on first leg.

11 a.m. Checked out of hotel and ready to roll. Wait. Turns out the electric motors weren't in the shipment. They were mistakenly sent to Texas.

Were overnighted and just arrived. Maybe tomorrow morning?

Now I'm at the Public Library. I'm so bored I may swing by the Dan Quail Museum next...

Depends on what you mean by "it". If you are talking about the town, well we are talking about a town that has the ONLY Vice Presidential Museum/Library in the country. For Dan Quail. I would try to say something witty, but we're talking Dan Quail here. The poor guys name actually IS a joke.

Of course having been here now, I'm going to have to assume that Dan is a very nice guy (or at least was a nice guy before Washington got to him) as every single person I have interacted with here has been exceptionally nice (including the folks at SMB North).

But, my plan was to sleep until the van was ready in preparation for the very long drive home (which I hope to make in record time). Well, I pretty much slept all day yesterday. Struggling to keep sleeping. My problem is that I need to hit the road as soon as the van is ready. So, I want to remain well rested. Unfortunately, I don't really know when that is going to be. So, I continue to rest.

I think resting and the Dan Quail museum go hand-in-hand quite well.

Re: Stuck at SMB North

Sounds awesome. I mean Indiana and the DQ museum aside.... you're getting your top in and get to drive across the country. A boring part but, YOU'LL BE IN YOUR VAN.

Don't push too hard. I know you're losing time but it's not a gumball, you don't have a co-driver and you don't want to do anything bad to the van.

Also, what route are you taking back? PMing my cell.

Re: Stuck at SMB North

Herb, I can hardly wait for an opportunity to meet you. Great sense of humor.

Good news! Van will be ready in about 30 minutes.

Turns out checking back into the hotel is going to be kind of an expensive nap. However, probably worth it as I've had more sleep than I normally get in a week in the past 30 hours or so and I'm ready to start moving home.

Here's to getting south of the freezing line before I get tired...

Didn't make it to Nick's. But, did get some pretty tasty pizza across the street at Pizza Junction.
