I have started our family summer trip.
In Seattle, 6 days ago, I paid $2.87.
Two days ago, in Mammoth, the cheapest was $3.27.
Now, whenever I see diesel under $3. I think it's a deal!
I can only imagine it is on the summer uphill climb.
On a related but less grumpy note, I am in Death Valley today and regular is $3.67 whereas diesel is only $3.02 That is the kind of price difference I like to see.

.... but thinking back to my Alaska trip this time last summer, I was paying up around $6. (+/-) so anything in the $3. range feels like a deal. At least diesel is lower than gas again.
In Alaska diesel is about $3.39 around Fairbanks. That is $0.50 more than regular. High was $3.89 in Coldfoot up on the Dalton Highway. It was about $3.60 in Canada. Still less than I paid last year in the southwest.

Mike, how far did you go up the Dalton? all the way to Prudhoe? I am thinking of doing that next year, but I don't know if I want to deal with all the giant trucks, dust and wind sheild breaking rocks.

Last time we went all the way up. This time we went up past the Atigun pass and turned around. We were disappointed - 1/2 the road is paved!!!! First time it was all dirt/gravel and challenging. Now, big rigs can do it. Still a magnificent wilderness area with some great boondocking places up there. Artic tundra is something to walk on! More wildlife will be seen in Denali, however.
We have about 1600 miles on the Dalton with no windshield or tire problems. Keep the speed down and slow down for oncoming traffic on the dirt.
Just do it, before it is all gone!
