Re: Thieves suck!

Woke up to the sound of a car alarm in my carport at 6 am this morning. Went out to see if it was mine (forgot I don't have one) and saw nobody. Did a few clicks on the panic alarm button. Couldn't get it to go off. Coming out of my sleep fog, I unlocked, opened, closed, and locked the van. Lights stopped blinking and alarm quit. Still looking around to figure out who did that. Nothing. Heard a few crackles and upon closer inspection I noticed my neighbor's passenger car window was smashed. Another neighbor was talking to me from their apartment kitchen window overlooking the carport and called the police while I continued to scan the property for a culprit. Nothing. My neighbor came out to take a closer look since I was bare foot and couldn't walk up to the window. This car was right next to my van. There was a wallet on the pasenger seat. Eye candy (good chance for a crack head - alarm or not). Went to wake up the apartment owner of the car with the broken window while we waited for the police. He came out and said he had removed the iPod from its wallet and nothing was taken. Go figure. Do you really think removing Sportsmobile decals reduces the eye candy factor? The way I figure it, a van says "home" and "stuff inside" all over it. Time to build a garage?

Now you're going to get me going on this Herb

Did you notice how many of the "big business protesters" wore Levi jeans and carried cell phones?

Re: Thieves suck!

I think you'll find that some of the Wall Street protesters have/had jobs.

Re: Thieves suck!

They cleaned my SMB out, too:

Nevermind. It just the guys in Fresno. (But I have had the unpleasant experience of finding my front door unlocked and open on two occasions when I left it closed and locked in the morning. Thieves do suck.)

I had my VSM (Vehicle Security Module) fail, and it would unlock the doors by itself - randomly. At first I thought I forgot to lock the van. Then, when the locks unlocked when we were in the van, we decided we had a problem. First I removed the battery from the remotes. Still it unlocked. So, I decided it was the van security module. After I discovered which fuse it was (F2.10), I pulled the fuse and then had to lock/unlock manually with the key - but, at least they stayed locked.

The dealer told me the VSM had to be programmed ($160), but I didn't see why - so I installed it and it has been working fine ever since.
