Tire Pressure Check Frequency and Multi-Climate Trips

Just curious how often people adjust their tires.

For example - I last set mine in real heat, a month ago - 65 Front and 70 rear. It got cold here the last day and they lost about 5 pounds each. No big deal. I'll probably top them off when it gets dark tonight.

At the same time, I'm planning to head cross country soon. The newly inflated tires will probably be good across the northern tier but, when I come down and then back east, it'll be much hotter. Since I'm looking to get an oil change and rotation in Portland, it'll probably all work out, but I'm just curious what other people do.

I generally check mine every month or so, but only adjust the air a few times a year.

What do you all do?

For a cross country trip I set them a little high (70 vs 65 psi) and check them every month or so. Last trip, 12,000+ miles 8 weeks and no pressure added to tires while on the road. And no air needed yet. Michelin tires hold air.

Mine has stayed tight. Do you mean the door hinge of the vehicle or the hinge for spare tire etc?

You know there is supposed to be a gap on the door hinge nut because the shank on the bolt is longer than the hinge. Providing you have enough thread for the nylon, it should stay on. If it doesn't, get a new nyloc.

I check my tire pressures every couple of days on a long trip and always in the morning before heading out.

The three hinges on each side for the tire-swingaway and the galley box holder.

I don't believe I have nylocs on mine. There's an allen nut on the top and a regular bolt on the bottom. I'll check.

When I picked up my van from Quadvan, Blaine told me to tighten them up periodically and he was right. They often need a half turn or so.

Are those the bolts you're talking about?

Nope, I was talking about the van door hinge bolts.
I've had no issues with any of the nuts. If I were you I'd put nylocs on....

I agree. It goes at the end of a long list that never gets shorter, it just changes.

Still, I enjoy it. Half the fun is improving and modifying.
