Tire repair in africa

After 4 Years on the road and beaten tracks, we have a considerable "tire problem" since recent months
First we are cheated for a lot of money
-order-paid-never get -....
then our overstressed old tires slowly dissolve and at last we drive a huge bolt into the side flank.
Own repair attempts are unsuccessful and so we go to the pro! These are difficult to find even here in Africa and we have not seen live this old method yet

Me either. Multiple layers from the inside and stitching. Fire to help seat the bead too. Awesome.

Necessity breeds creativity. Love seeing successful in the field repairs of the non conventional type. Thanks for taking the time to put the vid together and sharing it. Pretty cool stuff!

Amazing. I like you referring to the shop as a “witches’ kitchen” :-)

Unbelievable! You have to be one of the luckiest guys around...to have found someone out there that could even pull that off is a small miracle. Would you mind sharing how long (or far) you managed to continue your travels with that repair?

I have been around vehicles BIG and small all my life and I have NEVER seen something like that. A tire seamstress, amazing I'd like to know if it held up.

That's indeed one amazing process---watching I knew heat or some sort of vulcanizing had to be involved along the way.

Like Shenrie creative fixes are borne of necessity---ingenuity demonstrated at its finest!

Bob Wohlers teaches a very similar emergency repair method in the tire repair clinics he offers at various overlanding rallys. He said he has gotten lots of miles out of such a repair, but obviously only until a replacement can be found.
