Use of interior Rearview Mirror

I saw a comment in another thread that got me thinking.....

Do you use your interior (attached to the front windshield) rearview mirror to see through the van, past the interior mods, and out through the two rear door windows?

We have not used ours once since we purchased McBeast. We use the side mirrors and the rearview camera, and if for some reason we need to, we stop and have someone check things back there. I don't think we ever even open the shades on the rear doors.

So I thought I would see what others do....

Re: Use of interior Rearview Mirror

I had mine removed completly, even the mounting tab. Now I have a nice unobstructed view out my windshield.

I only use mine to keep track of the bikes on the hitch rack.

Re: Use of interior Rearview Mirror

Aside from the tunnel-perspective, I have a fairly clear view out the back of my SMB, since there's only one cabinet (our galley unit), and it is only standard counter height.

Re: Use of interior Rearview Mirror

I use ours all of the time.....it has an outside temperature gauge built in to it! Otherwise, it is worthless....too much stuff piled too high at the back.

Re: Use of interior Rearview Mirror

My backup camera monitor is part of the rear view mirror, so I use it all the time . Before I had the backup camera installed, I used it occasionally, but it wasn't too useful either.

Re: Use of interior Rearview Mirror

Back up camera and tow mirrors here. I never hardly use the rear view mirror.. except to look at the dog on the goucho. If i do look out the back windows the van is so long and angled funky.. i think i see more of the ground and ceiling of the van than what's behind us.

Re: Use of interior Rearview Mirror

I find it more helpful than I thought I would. I angle it so I see both rear windows, the 2 side door windows and the rear pasenger side window next to sofa. gives me pretty good view on the rear and passengers. But favorite view is the 4 tiny dog heads staring back at me from way in back.

The mirror always blocked my vision when looking to the right. So, I did the same thing.

Re: Use of interior Rearview Mirror

We use the interior mirror and the outside ones about equally. Don't have a backup camera yet, but we have one on our Prius and if I had to give up either the camera or the inside mirror, the camera would go.
