What Do You Listen to While Working on Your SMB?

OK, this is really a way for me to proselytize about one of my favorite radio programs, the Dark Secret Place by Army vet Bryan Suits, which is an up to date international relations show (as long as you realize that international relations has never been about diplomacy but has always been about the threat of kinetic force backed up by prior use of kinetic force). Bryan is on KFI 640 am Los Angeles every Saturday from 10 to midnight and is podcasted for listening while working on your van during the daylight hours here:

Other favorites include the Michael Berry Show:

But hopefully y'all will share your favorites so we may all listen to something new.

Either my own music collection playing wirelessly through my garage speakers or Chill, Deep Tracks, or XMU channels on the SMB's SiriusXM.

And that's only if I can hear it above the vacuum cleaner and the cordless drill.

Country. The older the better. Unless James Brown sneaks into the shuffle. Because then I listen to James Brown.

Re: What Do You Listen to While Working on Your SMB?

Never any talk, because I don't do talk radio, Facebook, or TV news channels. I care very, very little about what anyone has to say about politics or religion. It's the quickest way to get me to drive away really quickly in my SMB!

I do keep the tunes going, though. I'm a big fan of any modern acoustic jazz, which some mistake for bluegrass, but I realize all music is in the eye of the beholder.
Chris Thile, Mark O'connor, Kruger Brothers, Wailin' Jennys, any great acoustic guitarist (way too many to list), Tim O'brien, Bela Fleck, Mike Marshall, Alison Brown, David Grisman, Mountain Heart, Avett Bros., etc. etc. Yep, Tennessee mountain boy, though I try to separate myself from the modern country garbage people call music. No commercial radio for me, ever. They ran me off at COMMERCIAL radio, because that's all it is.

Podcasts while I drive at work:
This American Life, Radiolab, Home of the Brave, The Moth, Death, Sex & Money, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, etc.

And I dissappear into audiobooks on occasion for long stretches.

86Scotty: If you like TAL, you will likely also like Wiretap on the CBC. Jonathan Goldstein has been on TAL a number of times. (Now back to politics and religion...)

What Do You Listen to While Working on Your SMB?

The voices in my head telling me this will never work, you're spending too much, you bought the world's most unreliable vehicle, you're a loser.

Zeta: If it makes you feel better, we all feel that way from time to time. I posted the same thread over at ford-trucks.com in the 7.3L PSD forum where we are always modding or repairing our trucks and got these two notable responses:

Coax9952: "Enter the Sandman- Metallica To give me that feeling of impending Doom, everytime I open the Hood to my truck.......

Or Ride of the Valkeries When I'm Driving back from the Parts store..... "

Thomas White: "A little voice in my head...

When its 75*, Sunny, Light Breeze, it says: 'Great Job.'

Any other type of weather (90*s or 100*'s, high humidity, rain, cold, snow, ice, etc., it says:

'This is the best you could do with your life?
You were the fastest swimming Sperm of the Group?
LOOSER!'"

Re: What Do You Listen to While Working on Your SMB?

Honestly? David Guetta. I have a computer in the garage with Pandora and every internet radio, youtube and access to my entire collection of media. When I'm working I can't stand to listen to anything but Guetta- it's actually kind of annoying.
