Youth air rifle

I've been thinking about picking up an air rifle to teach my son how to shoot. Any recommendations for a junior sized air rifle?

thanks,
Herb

Re: Youth air rifle

One of my favorite movies. I want "an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle."

My Bronco's license plate is Dogdare.

Actually looking for a .177 cal pellet rifle.

Herb
Herb,

Check out the Air Venturi Bronco.

http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Air_Ventu ... rifle/2013

This is a great air rifle and an even better value. There is a lot of info on the web about this gun so Google search and read all you like. I have but thousands of pellets through mine shooting with my kids. It is very accurate, very quiet, and designed for smaller shooters. With a decent 3-9x scope you will be stacking pellets inside of 30 yards.

If you want a very high quality gun that can be enjoyed by your great grandchildren, check out the Beeman R7. By far, this is my favorite air rifle, also in .177.

Avoid almost anything made by Gamo or anything the advertises muzzle velocities of 1,000 feet per second. These guns are a POS, generally not accurate, loud and hard to shoot. IMHO, the sweet spot for muzzle velocity in .177 cal is 650-800 fps.

FWIW, once I got hooked on quality air guns, by powder burners went into the safe and have never come out again.

Good luck.

R

C'mon Herb, how can you pass up the Bronco model?

That crossed my mind, and is a good selling point, however I just ordered a used Daisy 853 air rifle. New seals, new sights, new sling, but the stock may have stickers or a school name on it. These are being sold by the Civilian Marksmanship Program to increase interest in youth shooting sports, for $100 plus shipping.

I got the Diana .22 for my son. It is a break barrel 1250cfs and works great. They make .177version. $250 with a scope.

Re: Youth air rifle

Herb,
All eleven Grandsons and single Granddaughter received the Red Rider BB guns on their fifth birthdays , some had to be altered to fit a couple of the boy's of lesser stature . I can say with great joy that each and everyone of them could not wait until it was their time . Most of them progressed on to various Pellet Guns and of course to firearms . A great source for Air Guns would be http://www.pyramydair.com
Great resource and easy to deal with .
