Took a short trip up Rainbow Lane in Big Bear this weekend. We did a Zip Line tour up this road in Pinzgauers to get to the starting point. The staff said this road went all the way to the desert. On the way home we took a short trip up to check it out. Anyone know if it does go all the way through?
Hey BW, did not mark it but Rainbow Lane is clearly marked on the maps off 38. Just found another map that shows it connects to a bunch of other roads but does not go to the desert that I could see. The road just to the North called Pipes looks like it does. I did not see any official camping along the trail but there did look like a few spots you could pull off for the night.
Plan on being up there a lot when the van is done.

anyone here with 1st hand info??
anywhere in big bear area??
Bill ,
Get the San Bernardino USFS map . Plenty of great places for short term camping and usually no crowds . Rainbow can be taken down to desert but not in a large rig . Pipes Road would be a better choice , but plan your route carefully as you will have to pick your thru several different trails/roads .

Another fun trip to this area is to take I-15 to Lucerne Valleys Old Woman Springs Road East to Hwy 18 turn right up the mountain a few miles to USFS 3NO3 on your left . Turn onto this road and begin your quest toward Big Bear Lake , their are several trails off of this Trunk Road that will eventually get you North Lake Shore Road that will parallel the lake .
