Baja 1000 and Baja adventures

My wife Jan and I returned yesterday from almost a week in Baja for this year's Baja 1000 - this time with our SMB!

I raced in Class 6 (Unlimited 6 Cylinder Trucks) as part of a three driver team. I drove the middle section getting out of the truck in San Ignacio at 3am Friday morning. Jan and I slept in the SportsMobile for a few hours and then headed towards the coast at La Laguna (Whale watching fame) and then south to San Juanico (Scorpion Bay to surfers). The race truck and the rest of the team continued south and we finished second in class. Jan and I ended up on the course after a wrong turn and too many miles to turn back, and ended up helping a couple of teams out.

The Hummer was the entry of Rod Hall, though he was not driving at the time - they went on to finish first in their class. We gave them a little help.

The 5-1600 Baja Bug had a broken transmission and we towed them 28 miles down the course to the pits at San Juanico.
