Re: Engineer Pass, CO
Didn't know the photo existed until my wife showed it to me this morning.
It was a fall trip that we had taken before, always trying to include 4 wheeling, kayaking, mtn biking and camping.
We started at Lake San Cristobal, went to Lake City up the Alpine loop back down FR878 to Ouray to Ridgeway State park. We met my daughter and her family at the Amphitheater Campground in Ouray. It's A small campground just east of Ouray on HWY 550, one of our top 10. My son-in-law did the Imogene Pass Running Race from Ouray to Telluride over Imogene Pass, I do Imogene Pass from the driver's seat. We ended up at Redstone(See Rocky Mtn Traffic Jamb posted earlier.)
The Redstone Campground, 1 mile north of town on HWY 133 is another favorite.
Both of the campgrounds make great base camps for exploring the surrounding areas.
If anyone is interested, maybe we can put something together next year. We've found the best time is right after Labor Day, not as crowded and still warm. Some of the most scenic area's in CO.
