Re: Finally built me an overhead console thingy

Got it carpeted and back in today. I decided to skip the foam on the edge (to keep from smacking my head). I just couldn't figure out how I would get it do lay down even and look good if I did that. i suppose I could put foam on the whole face but I didn't have much. Anyway, it's not near my head and just the carpet adds a good bit of padding.

In these lousy iPhone pics, the grays don't seem to match very well at all, but they look ok actually. Any gray carpet goes decent with the factory Ford gray upholstery. This is the same carpet that CCV trimmed my top in, he sent me a piece to do the console.

Re: Finally built me an overhead console thingy

Hey, has anyone made one that wraps around to the 'B' pillars and has a curtain track build in?? Curtains stowed at the 'B' pillars.

Re: Finally built me an overhead console thingy

LenS,

Do you have one like that in your van? You have all kinds of neat little things you have built in that thing.

That sounds like a good idea if there is room. On my van the passenger side B Pillar is too close to the area above the seat and thus the passengers head to work well.

86Scotty,

The console looks even better now its covered. What did you use to hang your tablet? Did I miss that post sometime?

By the way is that a radar detector hanging down under your latest creation?
Do you have one of those clubbed right feet that makes your vehicle go faster than it otherwise would or should?
It seems that I read a recent trip report about the speed creeping up on you during long drives.

My better half Suzann has one of those too, the club/lead foot not the radar detector, she should get one of those maybe.
On second thought no I do not need to encourage her. As it is I should have never let her drive on the track at Laguna Seca this spring, what was I thinking?

Finally built me an overhead console thingy

Thanks guys!

Bigvans, nah, it's never been updated. I still love it though, has saved my arse many times, and I don't really speed much, but knowing where they are is priceless.

Jamie, read above! I got a super deal on Ebay on that thing a few years back, and now I can't seem to drive without it. I don't really need it, especially in the van! The iPad mount is an Amazon cheapo which is falling apart, but still holds my iPad in place. It is happier now that I have 3 screws into plywood holding it up. It's pretty stable. I love it for GPS, and I have a live rear view camera down on my head unit now so that's why I don't mind covering up the mirror. also, I ran a long charge cord under the headliner when I did all of this so I can leave it plugged in. GPS on an iPad seriously sucks on the battery.

Re: Finally built me an overhead console thingy

Your build looks fantastic. Did you think about a good mount for the detector? I sure wish my overhead console thingy had a good spot for one so I could get it off the windshield.
