Not a SMB.

Every time I see a wrecked van, it seems to look like this:

I don't know if it's BS, but SMB claims their PH top is stronger than a factory top in a roll over. No, I'm not gonna test it
I still think some mid-support would help, especially on the 50 model where the side doors are. The other side has some cabinet support for the PH rails.

My SMB has a wheelchair lift that was done by my local mobility dealer...who also builds the classic handicapped vans. He says that he is not allowed to do what all the RV van conversion folks (including SMB) do. When he cuts off the roof the feds require him to add cross braces to tie the thing together because of the structural integrity loss due to the roof removal. I never have asked SMB about it.

I'm pretty sure there are plates of steel added to the SMB when the top is cut, if what I feel under my upholstery is any indication.

And I've said it before, and I'll probably say it every time a rollbar comes up: These accidents look horrible, but mostly the people live through it. When the news is people died in the van because the roof of the van (or SMB) was too weak, then it's time to think rollbar. Until then it just makes it tougher for the paramedics, and if not built correctly could make the van less safe.
