Re: Lucky

The hinges are much better than before but I had 4 installed on the box side and 3 on the tire side. At least it helps with heavier loads you might want to add down the road. Also plan if you want a winch at the rear. It might require giving up bumper storage space. Rear recovery points (shackles) can be added but can't be just welded on. The one's that SMB had installed on the qatar sportsmobile rescue vehicles were for transportation tie downs only and not rated to use as recovery points like the front bumper has. If you want those designed to be able to let somebody pull you out of a jam, you need to talk with Aluminess from what I've been told.

Thanks! Not concerned about recovery points - in the rare time I might get into that situation the frame is easily accessible out back.. but I did email Kenny about the hinges!

So Kenny (nicest guy I've dealt with in a while, BTW) responded. They've played around with their hinges over the years, and are now pretty happy with their current double hinge on top, one on bottom set up. He says it's as strong or stronger than three separate hinges, without issues of binding putting stress in weird places due to slight misalignment of the three hinges.

He also said they are prototyping a new latch system, which I told him to put on if they were happy with it so far. No hard core testing yet, but he says it should be a lot stronger. We'll see!

Re: Lucky

Took a quick trip to a favorite dirt-biking place with some friends.

Unfortunately my arm is still broken, so I couldn't ride. So instead I drank beer and cooked dinner:

My friends rigs:

Permanently mounted tent with pass through.. pretty cool:

Re: Lucky

Hey, sweet wheels! (exactly what I recently got BTW). Looks like a good time. Boy do I miss my KTM, and enduros, and woods riding in general. Now I have the perfect weekend racing machine (my SMB) and no time or money to get back in to riding. Perhaps when these youngsters are a little older.
