My Office for Today

I had to get out of my office today because of noisy construction so I took my mobile office (SMB) to Red Rock Conservation Area just outside Las Vegas. I actually got a lot of work done. Maybe I should do this more often.

Haven't been there since winter of 92 Mac. Can you still just drive out and camp? Back in 92 I drove out there during the black of night and it was the first time I'd ever been into the desert. When I woke in the morning what a surprise.

They have fenced off the entire conservation area to "protect the wild burros" and have closed all of the dirt roads that went into the park. They've built a fee area camp ground that gets quite a lot of business all spring, fall, and winter. The campground is closed during the hottest parts of the summer . . . which is strange since the Valley of Fire campgrounds stay open all year. There are no trees or shade at the Red Rock campground so it gets pretty hot.

Totally off topic, but I had the same experience.. First year after moving to CA I rode from SF to Death Valley, arriving at 2am on a moonless night. Woke up the next morning and damn!

Well, now (for the uninitiated) you need to explain what you saw. I know because I see it all of the time.

Guess I'll just remove that one from my places to revisit list. Too bad, even though it was just a road, I had a good time. Probably be overcrowded these days anyway.
