I agree, that has been the single most aggravating aspect of our van. I've been looking for a fix ever since we got it in 2013 before they discontinued the E-series line. Ford dealers have nothing to say about it (both sales and service depts.), Sportsmobile won't touch it, can't find anything on the internet that tells how to disable it. I do know that Ford police vehicles have a 'dark' mode so that exterior and interior lights do not activate when a door is opened. It CAN be done. Does anyone have any ideas (besides the rude and crude method of pinning in the buttons on the doors)? Whoever has a solution will have legions of van owners forever grateful. It might even get me to use an emoticon!

Add me to the list of folks interested in a solution to that problem.

I took my van to a dealer and had them disable the courtesy lights. Just took a minute with the computer. They didn't charge me but that could be because it's still under warranty.
Anyway, it can be done!

Very interesting! Did they disable both the inside AND outside lights?

Yes... nothing comes on anywhere when you open the door or when you unlock with the key fob.

Thanks, 2xplore, it's good to know that it can be done through programming. Just have to find a dealer or independent mechanic who is knowledgeable and willing. The several dealer service depts. I talked to about this flatly told me nothing could be done. Good looking rig you have, what year is it?

Thanks... it's a 2014. I was surprised to read people were having problems having that feature disabled. Maybe I should post a short thread letting people know because most aren't likely to find that subject in this thread.

IMO it sounds like the dealer enabled the "Police dark mode" setting in the ECM

Shhh...that's a super secret mode for those of us with former police vehicles (P71).

Can't you just turn the dimmer dial all the way down? That's the way it works in my truck.
