That's the question of the day.... The bike is around 450 - 500 lbs. Versa Haul makes a hitch mounted carrier for "sport bikes" that is rated at 600 lbs. I have to attach an extension to clear the tire and box on the back. I was considering welding on two additional anchor points to my Class IV hitch (1200 lb rated). Additionally, I was thinking about installing airbags on the rear suspension to even out the load and possibly protect the rear suspension from overloading.
The trailer in the picture has a integrated hitch that I think would get damaged from too much lateral movement. Also, the clearance is minimal at best. I've been able to take it down some basic dirt roads to campgrounds, but I've noticed some scrapes and scratches from the rocks when I'm finished. Really it's made only for the road. I've talked to the manufacturer about upping the clearance, but he did not think it was feasible.
The last thought was going with a single Kendon motorcycle trailer (I've also thought about a double trailer as I still have a 1200 GS Adventure)
http://www.kendonusa.com/single_trailer.htm They have a really nice tubular steel frame and a little more ground clearance, not to mention it can also be used to haul a few other things. I see them from time to time on Craigslist for $700 - $1000. This is the option I'm leaning toward.
