Re: Newbie's 1972 E200

Oh its bad alright !! no offense taken. We are having a hard time picking out an automotive fabric, most upholstery joints dont have much to choose from, and have heard if we go with a furniture upholstery it'll fade way to fast. Want to stick with fabric, proly more comfortable as a bed heat wise ? Im in Temecula Ca.

I don't know but I sure like the way that ultra leather feels that SMB uses. Plus if you ever spill on it I would think it won't stain as easy.

BTW, I wonder what SMB would pay to have a fine rig like that in their showroom?

Ya, this one was built in Andrews Indiana, no longer open. I'll have to give the ultra leather a look see.

Re: Newbie's 1972 E200

I would not change a thing.

What a great time capsule. Congrats on your incredible find.

I love the idea of having no computer parts in case of a sun flare or EMP attack and all the new vehicles
are not able to start.

Enjoy and hope to see it on the road......

Newbie's 1972 E200

Beautiful inside and out. Looks in much better shape than my 89. The color scheme is much better too.

Re: Newbie's 1972 E200

Why not make covers to slip over the old fabric and keep the historic part. After a really good steam cleaning that is.I don't know if you could match the Harvest Gold vinyl and it would be a terrible shame to take that down. Thanks for the pics.I know you will get lots of stares where ever you go.You never told us where you found the old girl.

Re: Newbie's 1972 E200

Thought some of you might enjoy some of the vintage SMB brochures that came with the '72. I'll try to attach - hope it works! Appreciate all the advice...I think the seat fabric will have to go (pretty faded and shabby looking). Slipcovers may be a thought tho...(is there anything more early 70's than Harvest Gold & Avocado Green?)

Here's another one...brochure for our van. Talk about a time capsule! Some of the phrases are a real blast from the past..."on weekends a Sportsmobile is a ball!" "comfortable - you bet!"
