We threw a Kuat bike rack on the van. It is awesome, rock solid and a built-in bike stand! Had to add a 14" hitch extender to clear the box on back.

Also, we just got back from our first outing with our dogs. We went to the Sawtooth National Recreation Area north of Sun Valley. Two nights out and the weather was great. Rained only at night with a great lightning storm Friday night. Still trying to figure everything out but we had a blast!

Re: Our "new" 2006 SMB

glad you guys enjoyed the first outing!

never heard of that bike rack brand before, but it looks nice and stout. we just have one of the old hollywood x4 racks. works well enough, but only paying 50 bucks for it makes it a lot easier to hear it dragging on the ground on a less than desireable departure, lol.

For sure!! I thought about that after putting it all together. The whole system is sticking out there quite a bit.

I figure we won't be taking the bikes if we are doing some serious off-road driving. Or the second choice (not fun sounding) would be to slide the rack out of the hitch and hump it up the hill until we can put it back together.
Hopefully only once and for a short distance!

Re: Our "new" 2006 SMB

Thanks to all for the congratulations!

I'm still beaming and ranting like a proud parent when asked about the SMB. My wife and I are constantly catching other folks staring and elbowing their friends when we drive by. Does this ever get old?!?!

Well, yes and no. It actually does get old at any organized campground. Pretty much every passerby wants to stop and chat about your SMB. It's cool if you're in the mood to chat, and it sucks if you want peace and quiet. I like peace and quiet, so I find myself boondocking more and more. It's a great problem to have though!

Very cool rig...... we did the Chicago to salt lake with just sleeping bags , still one of our favorite trips. People always point and ask about your truck and as noted earlier you get fewer comments and questions only with fewer campers. I have to admit I am one of those campers to chit chat when I see another smb. Hope to see you out and about.....
