New World Man, you just discovered Utah gold! You were on the east side of the San Rafael Swell, basically a dissected oval blister on the surface of the earth. It happens to contain some of the most spectacular and least travelled roads in the state. My favorite is the road from Goblin Valley State Park south to the Muddy Creek and Factory Butte. It dumps you out between Hanksville and Capital Reef. But if you want to attempt the Muddy crossing I HIGHLY recommend checking how safe it it at either the Hanksville BLM office or Goblin Valley. Grab a map or check it out on Google Earth and head out, you've just found one of Utah's best kept secrets. BTW, that area around Temple Mt is by far the heaviest used part of the Swell, so you've seen the worst of it. Happy travels and thanks for the pics!

Last summer we took a 10K mile, 8 week camping trip across the country and into Canada. The shots above are from different trips. Bishop was 2 weeks ago.

Went to Hole in the Rock Road last week. Never been there before. Getting there was half the fun.

On the road there...

Waiting for sunset, which turned out blah, but hanging in was relaxing. This is about as "set up" as we get. Most windows open with the Fantastic Fan running. Not many bugs at all. Nor much other wildlife.

Smile

Back from a 5 day mini-adventure into Gifford Pinchot National Forest, our entry point was out of Battle Ground Washington. 4 days of mid seventies with final day jumping to ~80 and glad we were heading back to our home base on the Oregon Coast to get some cool on.

Shown in the pic is the AWD van with our 12' x 18' "Snow White Cool Tarp" (totally comfy under that with the sun beating down on it!) with some fun LED string lights I found on Amazon for a few bucks, runs off any USB cell phone accessory battery.
