Quigley quality with the Big Baby

Ok, on with the story, quigley problems. I must say that the quigley 4x4 seems to be working well, but I must post these pictures to hear your comments. I crawled around underneath to look at the work and some of these parts seem to be used, to my humble eye. Maybe they make orange and rusty looking new parts????? These pictures were when the Big Baby had less than 1,000 miles. Any thoughts are appreciated.

thanks

Re: Quigley quality with the Big Baby

Are you blaming Quigley for Ford parts?

Looks normal. The steering box is plain cast iron and will rust, but never rust through.

Same for the steering arm.

The brake line is another story, and I would clean that up and protect it with a paint or cold galvanizing product.

Re: Quigley or Ford quality with the Big Baby

I appreciate the feedback. I have a few other pictures of other parts that look like that as well. I am not a mechanic and know many of you are, so wanted some thoughts. I am just so paranoid b/c the whole build, delivery and process was less than easy, to put it nicely. The 4x4 seems to work just fine, so far. I do have a bit of a wandering issue on the freeway, but have to first get different tires and then see from there...uh,...keep spending from there, I would imagine!

My new van from Quigley had some rusty parts also?? I thought maybe they had the parts stored for a while. I used some spray paint to make it look new. What else can you do?

Re: Quigley quality with the Big Baby

They probably buy at least 100 axles at a time, maybe more, and leave them sitting outside until needed. My mechanic said my 2008 van probably has a 2007 axle under it, but they don't change them from year to year. On top of that, my van was outside at Quigley for at least 6 months before we bought it, since we did it during the Great Recession of 2008. Not sure what was so great about that recession though.

Re: Quigley quality with the Big Baby

I visited the factory when I had my used van converted and I can assure you the parts are new and stored inside. See photo..
