Some winter camping

Cool photos Roonie, its awesome your family is using the SMB for winter camping. I hear you on the Buddy, I have used it a few times this winter, but tend to worry and leave the window open too wide (defeats the purpose). Can you feel a big difference with the Reflectix in the penthouse?

YES and even more so with the thermarest pads around it. I don't think we could do it without the insulation. TOo cold or have to have the buddy on the entire time.... The van is such a small space it heats up very quickly. It seems all you really need is just a slow trickle of heat constantly. A few guys next to us in campers were using the Honda 2000 generator and they were so quiet I couldn't hear them at all even though I was next door. However they only lasted until around 3:00 or so and would require one to get out into the driving snow to refill and start back up.

Dumb question, do they cover the generator with something when its snowing?

No it was almost buried in new snow. But when running the hot exhaust melted all snow in front of it by 2 feet. I talked to the guy running it for his camper and he said it usually lasts until around 2 or 3 in the AM. He also left it there the entire day while he went skiing.

The problem I see with the vans is this. Getting up at 2 or 3 in the Am and getting all stuff on to go out in the freezing snow and cold and fill it back up so you can have heat again.

I have the extra gas tank. It fits right on top of a baja box. I can't remember how many hours it will run the Honda but it's lots.
