Sonora Rally

I'm in Sonora, Mexico, this week, competing in the Sonora Rally - navigating in a 2016 RZR 1000.

I believe we are leading after two days, but have not seen official results yet.

It is a beautiful desert and a wonderful Rally.

Our Agile Off-Road 4X4 Coachmen Class B has been a great support rig and well received.

Sweet! Knock em dead Ramsey!
I think I drove that Coachman when I was getting my conversion done. Is that the one with the HUGE solid top that hangs over the cab a bit and something like a 6" Lift?
What a beast!

This is my friend Scott's rally.. He has long been writing rally routes and dreaming of putting together a multi-day international format cross-country rally. He has probably 5000 miles of competition ready routes in the southwest US, but of course land use issues makes it impossible to stage something like this.. So a few years ago he headed to Mexico and started putting this together..

Bunch of friends down there, including Ramsey! Kick ass and come home safe.

Also, Dave/Ramsey are leading the four wheelers, 11 minutes up after two stages.

I"m pretty sure that's it, I don't think he owns another Coachman. The Rally looks like great fun, hopefully Scott will be able to run it next year too, and if so I'll be there. I've always wanted to go to the Dakar, but have not been able to pull it off. This rally will be much easier to attend. Have a safe one Ramsey................

Ramsey was telling me about this last week when I was at Agile with him, John and Glen. Crazy rules about heading and distance only and not knowing if you have arrived at the checkpoint until within 200 meters (?) of it. No waypoint given, could be running parallel and be off course. And all this while bouncing over a desert on a course that cannot be pre-run. Sounds like a fun challenge!!

Be safe, enjoy and best for the win!!

I wish I'd had enough money to buy that when I was looking for another van, and when he was apparently considering selling it.

Finished today's stage with a burned up belt - wouldn't move the RZR after we stopped at the Finish, and filled the cab with smoke.

We have one more belt and one more day tomorrow.

We are still leading by a few minutes, but the second place car is much faster than us, so we will need some good luck and he some bad luck for us to win tomorrow.

There are two "Specials" and "Liaisons" tomorrow and we finish here in Rocky Point.

Coachmen has been great for support; it is nice to have an air conditioned space to get ready in and for our support guys to hang in.

There are a bunch of 2WD Sprinters here for the Moto teams and I have seen a few stuck. 4X4 vans are the only way to go!
