Trip to Copper Harbor upper peninsula Michigan

Spent the weekend at Keweenaw Off-road Adventure Retreat!!

Michigan Upper Peninsula.

Got to drive all the way to the Top of keewanaw Peninsula north of Copper Harbor to the abandoned Rocket Range pad.

Lake superior was a little angry..and cold..

2000 miles...never missed a tick...20+in of water on the trails..

UP snow gauge in FEET!!
SMOKED FISH and spicy jams!!
Trails were muddy and tight..no worry for Yolanda, she ain't scared of scratches n mud. Huge cable drum and lift house for copper mine.
Kitchi-ili-kip spring 45ft deep!!

Very cool trip!

Nice photos. Your title got my attention, I worked at Copper Harbor on Prince of Whales island in Alaska for a year, but clearly a different place. The only remains are a huge smelter that looks like a ships engine. Thanks for taking us along.

Enjoyed the photos - mind boggling the impact 390+ inches of snow would have.

Great Pics! We went up the east coast of lake Michigan to the UP this last summer. It was one of our best trips ever! We didn't make it to Copper Harbor though since we were trying to make it back down thru Wisconsin to a concert. That part of Michigan really reminded me of being in Europe. They're very protective of their locally owned businesses. There are many great stores and fishing shops. Here in Oklahoma, having a Walmart in every county seat has pretty much killed off the small towns. We saw VERY few WM's. We were told in Saugatuck, they don't even allow any franchise businesses. Great service and products in every restaurant and store we visited. It had cool temps, beautiful scenery, and great people. What more could one ask. Keep the reports coming dude.

Great pics! I have a lot of fond memories of exploring that area when I was going to college up there. Always wanted to get out to the rocket range, but I never had the right vehicle and good conditions at the same time.

Awesome pics. We will heading to the UP this week. If you could pass along the back roads information you used to get to the mine site, any other travels or tid bits of information you did when in the UP, we would appreciate. Thanks

The mine with the big cable hoist is the Quincy Mine, which is right next to US-41 north of Hancock. Very easy to get to, impossible to miss.

I'll let the OP explain how to get to the rocket range, that one is trickier and I've never been there myself. 4WD or at least high ground clearance is mandatory for that one.

Here? Looks like lots of fun dispersed camping spots out there at the tip!
