Re: Vented Rear Windows .... I always wanted some!

I believe I am the original SuperDork based on comments my 36 yr old son still makes when recalling his days in junior high!

If not, I'm in Santa Clara and have my stock window in the garage. I don't need them, but they are too good to throw away.
Hey Mike,

I PM'ed you yesterday about your windows. If the offer is still open, I'd like to come down and get them today or tomorrow. I'm assuming they are tinted, right?

.... or I could drive to Alaska and get Bones's windows!

Thanks -
Phil

Yeah, I think you established that last week.

Come on, at least make this a little more challenging for us. This is like slow pitch softball.

I'm guessing it is the wrong season for that.

Mike, thanks again for the windows! This Forum sure has some great people on it (well, except for Herb, he's just plain mean).

Phil,

Just in case, you can get the proper sealant for the windows at an autobody supply house. Everything has to be clean and then you will have no problems as long as you don't overtighten the nuts.

Re: Vented Rear Windows .... I always wanted some!

Well, I managed to get it sealed up just as the rain started again. Monument Auto Parts had the butyl sealant. I was questioning myself on how tight to tighten the four bolts and after seeing your post, went out and backed the nuts off just a bit. If I broke these windows while installing them, Herb would never let me forget it!

The grey primer is way too dark. Maybe I'll be able to find a spray can of touch up paint for the van. I just couldn't justify submitting a claim or paying a body shop about a grand to fix it right. Between a can of paint, sand paper, the butyl sealant and gas to pick up Mike's free windows (thanks again), I'm probably only into the repair about $50.

I'm not sure what to do with the swing arm yet. I don't think I can repair it myself. I think I'll talk with Dave at Aluminess and see if he'd be willing to do a repair on it. I hate to pay for another one to be made.

Re: Vented Rear Windows .... I always wanted some!

So, using my poor man's press (it's amazing how many uses you can find for these vans), I managed to straighten the swing arm enough to get it mounted and somewhat work. It is still tweaked a bit out of shape, but functional until I figure out what I want next and scrounge up some spare $'s.

Enough of this project. Time to start using the van again ....

Re: Vented Rear Windows .... I always wanted some!

I straightened my tire carrier the same way, board on one end and backed over the other until straight. A little paint and all was good. I inherited bent one by previous owner.

I see tabs were also removed.

Looks good.
