Re: Wilson (Bill Wilsons New Rig)

I had an '83 air-cooled. I spent more time working on it than driving it. It never looked as nice as Bill's!

Your new van looks awesome, too. Congrats.

Cheers,
Mike.

I really enjoyed your posts on the Samba. You seem to bring so much life to your vehicle. I'm looking forward to hear about the good times you and your sportsmobile have together.

thanx buddy

Wilson # 1 ( the westy ) was a combined project of love for me with ALOT of help from the folks at Samba, directly or indirectly

the rig is perfect, only thing i would add is a propex heater, sewfine seat covers and a subbie motor

now THAT would rock, but will still be two small and still no AC for my needs sadly, hence Wilson # 2

additionally that will put my total investment to over $30k in a Westy

(I will have less than $40k in to my rig, including tires, mechanical, solar, new 4cf fridge, New interior)

Wilson # 2, was purchased at a great price
i have the knowledge from buildiing out my Westy what i want
(disclaimer - i didnt do much execpt write checks, BUT i did the homework and got lucky with a couple of good wrench turners and RV experts )

Just put on new BFG tires, new rotors and pads, full 30,000 mile tune up, radiator flush, new dif seal and changed all fluids
$2,000

Next:
Interior floor plan change

I found a guy in Spring Valley that does killer work, will get his bid

then up to SMB for Xtra large storage install and some "systems" maintance

will then have Two quotes for the interior work

I am leaning toward the guy in spring valley, will cost a couple of bucks more
but when Wilson shows up at the next SMB round up i want to make you guys Jealous

I will also depend on you guys here to help me tweak the final Floor plan and upgrades/mods
that WORK and not just cool or pretty

I want a rig that is Pleasing to the eye, but will be Functional and not scared to throw in a wet dog and a sandy chair or bike

Most of my miles will be highway
I finally got married at 54 to a Lovely Lady that is from Thailand
she has never seen our Great county and i get to revisit a ton of places that i saw as a kid
and another ton i saw before i quit drinking and dont rememember

Wilson #2 will also allow us to travel with our dog Cooper ( my First Westy... he is a West highland terrier )

thats it for now, will post floor plans and mods for your suggestions and comments

Happy 4th to all

(i hope you remembered to get a 5th for the 4th on the 3rd )
