Yellowstone winter trip

A long weekend in Yellowstone with the camper van. Having the Espar D2 air heater and the Espar S3 coolant heater was very nice with the single digits. The roads are snow covered and icy... cars slide off the road many times every day in the winter. We helped pull someone out of the ditch too. We used maxtrax to make a ramp back up to the pavement, and doubled up the tow strap to reduce the length and to pull the vehicle toward the road rather than parallel to the road. With the snow covered road it is often not possible to see where the pavement ends and where the ditch begins.... once the right tires go off the pavement it is too late and the vehicle slides off the road. In this type of situation it is best to look at the yellow center line (when visible) and use that to pick your line rather than picking your line on where you think the edge of the road is. Note the elk in the background on the slope, between the two vehicles, in the second image.

That's great advice---something maybe many of us do instinctively without thinking but nice to see it in writing.

I'd add if night driving and on-coming too bright headlights temporarily blind you look down and to your right, follow the solid line until the offending vehicle passes you.
