1st trip of the year

We spent the first night just south of Salt Lake city waiting to find out if the parks would be open. Then we headed down to Valley Of Fire that was great. Hiked all over the place found a ton of Petroglyphs off the beaten path. Then off to Zion more hiking wanted to head in the the back country but i was worried having just snowed and being to slick (2wd) then Death Valley we had the place to ourselves all of it.
Ended up in Tahoe for 3 days meeting some friends.

NO troubles untill 5 miles from the house I live at the base of Teton Pass 12%grade midnight and snowing 1 turn from the top of the pass and I couldnt make it. Had to let it roll back slow and lock the brakes to whip it around to go back down then drive 100miles around the pass through Snake River Canyon. I think the wife is getting close to letting me make it 4x4
Heres some pictures

Re: 1st trip of the year

Hello Dave

We camped at Teakettle its legal there, they say you cant camp at the racetrack but no one ever came buy and checked. in Zion we stayed at the Watchman camp ground at the info center it was ok as far as CG go. At Valley of fire I cant remember the camp ground name there are only 2 and it was the better of the two Arch CG I think. we stayed in the Alabama Hill's outside of Lone Pine im sure you've been there. that was cool in Tahoe I rented a cabin.

Re: 1st trip of the year

One of my maps of Death Valley shows a campground just past the Racetrack. We've stayed there and I couldn't imagine a Ranger coming by there at night. And if anyone came by, my map shows it is a campground. And there was an old, unuseable Portable toilet 50 yards up the road.

There were 5 of us there. While we were setting up camp, a Suburban came by, u-turned and left. 4 hours later we were sitting around the campfire when the door on the toilet slammed! We all jumped about 10' straight up - nobody wanted to go check. Next morning Vince and I went to see what was going on. The Suburban was camped just on the other side of the toilet! They tried to use it and discovered it was not functional.

Ha! You just didn't have to go bad enough!

Found an abandoned porta-potty behind some rocks in a boondock site once. Did my share and added some sani-blue and then took full advantage. Good times.
