Re: 2010 Central California Fall Meetup
Hope Valley won't have snow... I can pretty much guarantee that. We go every year that time and its chilly but beautiful!

Re: 2010 Central California Fall Meetup
I've been to Lee Vining many times to shoot fall colors in October. The pass may close for a half day or so for flurries, but is usually open until the seasonal closure sometime in later Oct. Quite unpredictable. The option to cross the range is over rt. 58, but that is not attractive for Nor Cal residents. I come up 395 from Mojave, so it makes no difference to me. Sorry folks, but I so prefer the East side, that if it's on the west, I'll probably bail.

Re: 2010 Central California Fall Meetup
I am going to be in Saline Valley over Columbus day week end. I am flexible as to when I come out, So, if there is a meet up after that, in the hywy 395 area (east side) I could make it. I have to be home the 18th as it stands now. I can check in on the forum next Tue to see what is happening. If anyone P M's me I can give you my cell #.

Re: 2010 Central California Fall Meetup
Well, I was afraid of this...Sonora and Tioga are closed. I'm sure Sonora Pass will open but sometimes the Yosemite Rangers are just looking for a reason to close Tioga for the season. They have done this before and even though the pass was clear for several weeks, they still didn't open it. That year they finally reluctantly opened it in mid November because of the lack of snow.
So I'm not too sure about an East side meet for me. There is a good chance both will open and if the weather doesn't look bad I'll try to make it if that's were everybody is going.
I'm heading up this week now that I finally got my van back from Freedom Ford
Hopefully Leavitt Lake will be open sometimes this week and at least I can see it this year.
If weather sours this month I plan the use the weekend as my routine trip to areas above Fresno.
Those planning to go, can we get up a list....times gettin close.

Re: 2010 Central California Fall Meetup
Is the Central Cal meet going to happen?? Kathy and I voted for the Central Coast but are open for any adventure. Good company, good food, a big fire and maybe a nice bottle of wine what could be better?

Re: 2010 Central California Fall Meetup
Seems like it kind of petered out.
Dina and I will be headed for the Bishop area from 10/30 to 11/3. Anyone have plans for that area at that time?

Re: 2010 Central California Fall Meetup
We are still up for something for the 23rd to the 25th, but other than the 2WD accessible areas of Death Valley, I know nothing about camping north of Bakersfield. I see lots of great looking places on the maps but have no first-hand experience with any of them. I have no problem picking a place on a map and have it turn into a disappointment when it is just my wife and me, but I wouldn't feel right asking others to join us on a crap shoot. We would prefer to boondock, so if someone wants to name a good spot for that weekend that is easy enough for Central as well as Southern Californians, we'll be there.

Re: 2010 Central California Fall Meetup
It looks like my wife, my dog and I are heading to Death Valley this weekend. We will be camping Saturday and Sunday nights. Assuming the road conditions are favorable, we will be heading in on Saturday morning via Wildrose Rd and seeing things in that vicinity and possible camping at Thorndike. Sunday, we plan to find a spot on one of the canyon roads off West Side Rd or somewhere along the Greenwater Valley Rd. If anyone wants to join us, send me a PM with your phone number.
