2018 Winter Epic Ski Trip in Beastie 3

Wow! Finally enough snow to get 1der Girl and Me on the road!

I cannot believe we are in the second half of February and we have not been on the slopes anywhere this season! Our Mountain Collective Passes (MCP) for this season are just screaming at us to get used. The last two seasons we have had a blast doing this and have spent six weeks each season skiing and all but about six nights in Beastie. Agile 4WD, CCV top, Espar Heater, 300w of Solar, hot water, insulation, lots of food and a great layout plus compatibility make it lots of fun. (prior trip www.blingmyrig.com)

So, tomorrow is the planned day of departure for our third annual ski trip.

First stop is Alta/ Snowbird / Snow Basin in SLC, UT. The MCP divided up Alta and Snowbird this season providing 2 days at each instead of two days combined. They also added Snow Basin so we have six days of skiing right there in SLC. We are figuring nine days in SLC so we have a couple of down days and not skiing six straight days plus allowing some flexibility for weather.

If anyone has a driveway they can offer up for us even if for a couple of days, or a suggestion for a overnight spot, we would appreciate it and make sure to make it worth your hospitality! We do not need any hookups, just a space to park and pop the top.

After SLC, around March 6th, we will cruise over to Telluride and Aspen and visit with friends and get some days in at those mountains. Telluride looks across at the Coors Beer mountains, has some great skiing and our friends have lived there for 40 years. They know ALL the hidden runs. Aspen is four mountains, each is separate. We really like Highlands, and we may get some days at the other mountains as well. Kind of the same deal in Aspen with longtime locals as friends who know the secret runs.

After we sadly leave those two areas and friends, around March 13th,we will head up to Jackson Hole and then Sun Valley, if the snow conditions warrant going that way. 1der Girl wants to check out Dinosaurs on the way north, that should be fun. We also have our snow shoes!

Mammoth is usually a safe bet late in the season and we will likely be there around March 24th (earlier if JH and Sun Valley are not worth the drive).

If Tahoe has any offerings on the way back from Mammoth, we will pop in there. Squaw Valley allows overnighting in one of their parking lots and it is a wonderful place if there is good snow.

So, if any of you are heading up to any of those places, please give us a shout and lets see if we can connect for a few runs. Yeah!!

About time! It’s been hit/miss with conditions this year, and timing is everything. We’re in Snowmass this weekend with family, conditions are pretty good right now, considering the low snowfall this season. We missed the 14” dump last week that’s held up with colder temps, yesterday was around 10* up top, today will be about the same. There’s been overnight snowfall the last few nights but it looks like it starts warming up a bit next week with not much snow forecasted, hopefully it’ll still be decent by the time you get here, at least you should have some sunny days out on the deck....
BTW-you said May 6 after SLC, think you meant March 6
Sorry to miss you guys this trip, unless you decide to head down to the front range or meet up with us in Moab for spring break, we’ll be there between March 23-April 1, Passover in the desert! Might even try to get a day or 2 of skiing in along the way. Have a blast!! Safe travels, think snow!
Shanti the snow queen.....

I grew up in Aspen and Highlands was my favorite mountain by far. Skied there more than all the other mountains combined. Haven't been for probably the last 25 years, though. Highlands used to have kid's season passes for $20! That's how old I am!

Alta is a great mountain too, as are Telluride and Jackson.

Have fun, sounds like a great trip!

2018 Winter Epic Ski Trip in Beastie 3

Not any more.....
Ridiculous prices now, amazing families can afford a ski vacation any more. It’s actually cheaper to purchase a season pass to a particular mountain if you’re planning on spending a week skiing somewhere. We have gone with the Epic pass in the past, but have done the Rocky Mountain Super Pass + the last few years(to be replaced by this next year) https://www.ikonpass.com/en?utm_camp...xoCgEIQAvD_BwE
The mountain collective is a great deal for anyone able to make the trek.

Vail is $199 now for a day on the slopes!!! Redunkulous🤦🏼

I've done the RMSP + for the last 3 years and opted to not do a pass this year. Looks like we got lucky.

Your gonna Love Telluride and gonna get in some great lines especially with locals. The fall lines at Telluride are perfect and long so have some endurance and strong legs. You're gonna have a blast but I know you already know that

Looking forward to a trip report, have fun, be safe and rip some great lines.

Cheers

Awesome guys!
BIG thank you to JVan for his very kind offer, we will be seeing him tomorrow afternoon!

Ben10281 - Hopefully we will be able to make a few runs together. We are not sure if we will hit Telluride on the way to Aspen or on the way out. Still to be determined.

re: Pass costs - The Mountain Collective and Beastie are the ONLY reasons we can even pull this off. We buy the MCP early when it costs $399. 2 days at each resort and 50% off any additional days.

More updates to come ! Thanks again!!

We have the mountain collective as well. Did JH for new years which was a blast. Snow is finally stacking up so we will be chasing powder with the pass in March. Might see you in Aspen. We will be camped at the airport. Big white EB350 towing a snowmobile. Cheers!
