450 Unpaved Miles in Baja

After sitting idle for the last 6 months in the garage getting "improved" by me, the van finally got out for another Baja California adventure. I visited several old mission-era sites with melting adobe walls, a forested lake (Laguna Hanson), some petroglyph & pictograph sites, and as always tried to document every secluded camping beach I could find. I'm happy to report that this time there were no engine fires or getting stuck in the mud like my last Baja trip.

Here is my write-up: Baja California, Mexico: 2016 | Baja California

The only major equipment failure was the A/C, which died right at the end of my trip. The drive north was sweaty until I passed Las Vegas. My mechanic says it's a leak i the Sportsmobile rear A/C system, where the refrigerant hose goes through the engine bay. For now, we've simply disconnected the rear A/C, and I need to find an A/C shop willing to fix it.

My new toys this trip were a replacement ExtremeAire compressor (made airing up so much faster!), a new dash computer system (Microsoft Surface tablet with high-res satellite imagery of all of Baja California downloaded), and a windshield dash video cam.

The innards of my original 3rd brake light from Sportsmobile had turned to rust and crumbled away, so I replaced it with one Jage had selected. This is the one from etrailer.com.

Thank you. Just noticed that the one on my new van isn't working and read Jage's old thread tonight. Looking for one that will completely cover the hole in the PH. Found one on Amazon but it might not be the right size, so thanks for the link.

Looks like a great trip!

Can you detail your install of the driver side spot light? Something I've thought of on/off over last several years.

Yeah, I put the write up here: where-to-connect-spotlight-to-12v-starter-battery. I still love having it for checking out potential camping spots at night. Despite my initial complaints in my write-up, it's worked great for me.
